Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. Then she joined NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist and host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently together with the President Reagan to meetings alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
